About me.
I received my doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from Rosemead School of Psychology of Biola University in California in 2012, after completing my predoctoral internship at University of Washington Counseling Center. I also completed my postdoctoral residency at University of California, San Diego, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). I have been a licensed clinical psychologist in California (PSY26722) since 2014. In addition to maintaining my private practice in which I provide outpatient psychotherapy to adults with bicultural or multicultural backgrounds, I also provide training and consulting services on diversity and mental health issues to college campuses and training programs. I have served as a clinical supervisor at various outpatient and college counseling centers where I provide individual and group supervision to postdoctoral, doctoral, and master-level psychology trainees. I received a certificate in psychoanalytic couples therapy from Newport Psychoanalytic Institute (NPI) in 2024. I am currently pursuing the full certificate in psychoanalysis at NPI.
My clients typically experience me as warm, genuine, open, inquisitive, supportive, and gently challenging. In my work as a therapist, I am constantly inspired by the power of change that emerges from a collaborative and dynamic therapeutic relationship between the clients and myself. I believe that the goal of therapy is the expansion of psychological capacities for an individual. The changes that the individual undertakes in therapy include increasing greater flexibility in affective experiences and interpersonal relationships, which can further enhance an individual’s capacities to meet personal and interpersonal needs.
In working with clients from diverse backgrounds, I have come to appreciate the importance of self-reflection regarding my own cultural values. As an 1.5-generation Taiwanese-American, I am mindful of the multiple identities that I hold, in both marginalization and privilege. I believe that my role as a mental health provider includes becoming an ally and an advocate for those whose voices cannot be heard.
I conduct therapy sessions in English. However, I am fluent in Mandarin Chinese and can provide sessions in conversational Chinese. 我能以英文和中文流利地與您溝通。
